Chinese nationality after acquiring another nationality

La nacionalidad china al obtener otra nacionalidad

What it is

Verified

Under the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, China does not recognise dual nationality for its citizens. A Chinese citizen settled abroad who voluntarily acquires another nationality automatically loses Chinese nationality; the law does not require any application in this case. Separately, a Chinese citizen may apply to renounce Chinese nationality if they are a close relative of foreigners, are settled abroad or have another legitimate reason; it is lost once approved (state employees and serving military personnel may not renounce it). A foreigner who once had Chinese nationality may apply to restore it for legitimate reasons, but may not then keep the foreign nationality. Abroad, these applications are handled by Chinese embassies and consulates and approved by the Ministry of Public Security. Children under 18 may apply through their parents or another legal representative.
