Health card (Catalonia)

Tarjeta sanitaria individual (Cataluña)

What it is

Verified

In Catalonia the individual health card (TSI) is issued by CatSalut. The basic requirement for everyone is being registered on the padrón of a Catalan municipality. People registered with the INSS (workers, pensioners, recipients of Social Security benefits or equivalent situations) already have their entitlement and apply directly to CatSalut, with the online form or in person at the CAP (primary care centre). Foreign nationals without access to the INSS also apply this way, and CatSalut assigns them a level of coverage according to their circumstances. For babies, you must first register them with the INSS as beneficiaries (this can be done from the hospital). Online, if the decision is positive you receive by email a provisional receipt with the CIP code, which gives access to health centres until the card arrives. At the CAP for your address (or the one you chose) you fill in the form and authorise a data check, or bring an identity document (DNI, NIE or passport) and a padrón certificate less than three months old. CatSalut sends the card free of charge by post. People who come back to live in Catalonia after some time away must apply again.
